A 'music school without walls'...
IMA offers families the opportunity to take private lessons in violin, guitar or piano in the convenience of their own home with our outstanding faculty, while at the same time providing regular opportunities to perform in concerts and recitals with other IMA students each semester.
Intermediate and advanced level students are also encouraged to collaborate and perform with each other, and will be coached by different faculty members for a truly collaborative experience.
Our instructors are talented professional musicians with advanced degrees who love teaching kids, and we do our best to match the instructor we feel will connect most with your child.
So we can begin the process of doing so, please fill out the form below so we can start to get to know each other.
We provide various enrichment activities for IMA families too. Past field trips have included going together to concerts at Carnegie Hall, or viewing the instrument collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. These trips of inspiration and perspective, while educational, also provide a fun social outlet and opportunity for IMA students from different schools to connect with each other.
Enrollment
Ongoing throughout the school year, scheduled at a mutually convenient time for your child and the instructor. IMA offers a variety of lesson lengths, based on your child's age and level.
Regular IMA students sign up for Fall term and then Spring term with us per academic year, with an end of the semester recital with other IMA students performing being the culmination and highlight to showcase what they have learned.
Admission is rolling, allowing for various start dates, but we roughly follow the school year calendar, with a full semester being 16 weeks, with an end of term recital counting as the last lesson. Late enrollment will be pro-rated.
We also offer summer lesson packages for interested families. IMA also offers a limited number of scholarships for families demonstrating financial need*.

Testimonials
"Andrea is a phenomenal guitar teacher. He’s kind, supportive, and is teaching our daughter a real love of guitar. She looks forward to her lessons and is always proud to show us what she’s learned. I loved my guitar teacher when I was a kid, but I wish I’d had Andrea!
And from my daughter:
"Andrea’s the best. We’ve been playing guitar since kindergarten and we always have fun. He has taught me to play chords, power chords and to read notes. He’s funny and nice and he even plays songs for me to see what I want to learn next."

"My son has been taking private violin lessons with Minda since he was in Kindergarten at PS41 and he’s now in the 11th grade. Minda is great with children and treats them like a trusted friend which made my son always feel comfortable with her. At the same time, she is a dedicated teacher and knows when a student is capable of new challenges. There were several times when I thought a piece of music might be too advanced for my son but Minda knew he could do it and she was always right. There were also many times my son wanted to give up playing the violin and I almost allowed it but Minda was confident that all the persistence and practicing would pay off and she was right. My son reached a point where he started to enjoy the music he was playing and through Minda’s encouragement, he joined the ISO orchestra where he’s now in their highest level Symphony Orchestra and has had the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall and the MET. We’re very grateful to Minda for all of her encouragement and for always being able to see the bigger picture when it came to my son’s training as a violinist."
